The atmospheric ambient piece halfway in at Baaltis is huge! Everything after is just a continuation of that beauty. Favs are both Baaltis and the emotional loaded Salt of the Earth, which died out prematurely to my opinion.

#2 2022: Sometimes atmospheric black metal is just atmospheric and as a result: boring. Not so RIFT! The sound is raw, the pace is mainly relaxed and the vocals are distorted. Several songs on this melancholic album make me sit up and take really notice when they appear on my random playlist. It is this unobtrusive catchiness, which makes this touching album so great. Check for example the title-track or "Night-Glare".

Late 90's BM worship, but it's also a lil more than that. This album takes the best elements from the scene it's inspired by and mostly avoids the worst of it; the song-writing is well-written, it's performed with passion and fun, and the production is raw but isn't lo-fi. (i.e. it doesn't obfuscate and/or suckass). Tl;dr It's safe but high quality BM. Recommended.
